Mersea Island Players/ Mersea Island Young Players

Mersea Island’s long running drama groups meet at The Mersea Centre every Wednesday.

The Mersea Island Young Players (MIYPS) meet at 6pm in the main hall and welcome children from 7 to 17 years.  MIYPS have a summer production and are involved with the pantomime in January.  

The adult Mersea Island Players group is open to MICA members aged 18+ and meets at 7:30pm in the small hall.  Their main show of the year is the pantomime however, there is sometimes an additional production from them in May.

Monday Lunch Club

Monday Lunch Club is subsidised by MICA for people over the age of 75 living on Mersea Island. The club is from 10:30am- 2pm on Monday mornings, 40 weeks per year. Our members have a two course lunch as well as a different activity or entertainer each week and are looked after by our team of volunteers. There is currently a waiting list for lunch club but please contact Debbie for more information or to add a name to the list.

The Friendly Tea Dance Society

The Tea Dance society meet in the main hall on a Sunday afternoon approximately once a month. The dance is from 2pm- 430pm & incorporates dancing from ballroom to rock and roll and is suitable for all dancers from beginner to advanced. Entry is £4 which includes tea, biscuits and a raffle ticket. Bar open. The Tea dance society runs dances weekly in other venues throughout Colchester and Tendering. Contact Phil for more details.

Mersea Island Film Society

The society is a non-profit making and the membership is only £22.50 per year, and we try and create not only a superb cinema experience but a social occasion at every showing. Films are shown at The Mersea Centre mainly on the last Friday of every month. Doors & Bar open at 7.30 pm and the film starts at 8.00pm.

W.E.A. (Adult Part Time Learning)

The WEA is a nationwide authority providing part time adult learning courses. A variety of courses in differing subjects are run 2-3 times a year on Tuesdays in the small hall. Call Margaret Warne for more information on past and future courses.

Strood WI

The Strood Women’s Institute group meet on every 4th Wednesday evening of the month at 7:30pm.

West Mersea and District Flower Club

The Flower club meet in main hall every 4th Thursday of the month and hold annual summer and Christmas bazaars.

Mersea Island Horticultural Society

Mersea Island Horticultural Society holds it’s bi-annual shows at The Mersea Centre. The society aims to inform, support and entertain people with an interest in gardening in its many forms. The Mersea Island Garden Club is the online ‘window’ of the Horticultural Society.

Why not come along to see us – we are a very friendly bunch. You don’t need to be a horticultural expert with a vast knowledge of Latin names (although experts are welcome too!) – just an interest in gardens and plants – whether it be vegetables or flowers – or both.

Sensei David runs 3 sessions here at The Mersea Centre on a Tuesday afternoon. Kazen Kai specialises in Karate and kickboxing and is excellent for young children as the method mixes the traditional discipline with fun!

Diddi Dance

At diddi dance we realise and encourage endless enthusiasm and energy in an action packed, full of fun 45 minute dance class.

Classes are suitable for both boys and girls aged from 18 months upwards, however we have had lots of younger children join in. So to see if your toddlers will enjoy it contact Charlotte, your local diddi dance teacher to book a FREE trial.
