NEWS REGARDING THE CHARITY SHOP!

From Tuesday 14th July, MICA Charity shop will be open Tuesday to Friday from 10am-1pm.  These reduced hours will run as a trial period and may increase or decrease depending on demand, safety and availability of volunteer staff.

Entrance will be via the main doors of the shop and customers will be admitted in limited numbers to allow for social distancing.  Distancing reminders will be placed around the entrance and throughout the shop for your safety.  All customers will be required to wear gloves which will be provided at the main doors and can be disposed of at the exit.  There will be a one-way system leading through the shop and out to the main hall where more items will be displayed.  Payment, which we would prefer to be contactless, although cash will be accepted, will be at the bar & customers will exit via the fire exit at the side of the building.  Toilets will not be available however, the public toilets at the library opposite will be open and disabled facilities will be available for emergencies.

We will be accepting donations of items during opening hours only.  The car park will be closed, so when you pull up to the car park entrance, please report to the shop desk & they will call a member of staff to help you.  Where possible, please let us know beforehand that you are coming.  You will be asked to drop your donations into the storage area next to the shop entrance.  Items will then be dated and stored for 72 hours before being sorted and either recycled or sold as appropriate.  Due to the limited amount of storage we have available, and for the safety of our staff and volunteers, we ask that you please only bring items that you are able to carry into storage yourself and please, no large items of furniture or large electrical items.  Please do not leave any donations outside whilst we are closed.

At present, government regulations do not allow gyms, indoor sporting facilities or gatherings of any kind to take place so, until guidelines are updated, we do not have a date when we can resume other activities at MICA.  Please be assured that we are working on the safest way to reopen and as soon as we have more news, we will be sure to let you know.

If you have a few hours to spare each week and are interested in volunteering, please contact trustee Peter Tydie on tydies@aol.com.

NOTICE REGARDING CORONA VIRUS! (updated 21/3/20)

Following the Prime Minister’s announcement on Friday 20th March, MICA is now CLOSED until further notice.  We will be available to answer any questions you may have via email.  Please send all enquiries to office@merseacentre.org

The Trustees of the Mersea Island Community Association (MICA) complied with the Government’s Covid-19 regulations and closed the Centre on 23rd March 2020 until such time as the regulations allow it to be safely re-opened.

Since then all MICA employees have been furloughed under the government scheme and will continue to be so until such time that restrictions are lifted.

Currently Government regulations do not allow Bars, Gyms, or function venues to be open, but the Trustees are putting in place plans to support the re-opening of the Centre whilst ensuring the safety of both users and MCA employees – but these plans can only be implemented once regulations are lifted. Once the all clear is given, the Centre will be opened as speedily as possible.

In the meantime, keep safe and rest assured that the Trustees and MICA team are looking forward to welcoming back all users to enjoy the facilities the Association offers.
